On Sept. 15, the Lafayette Police Department "was notified of threats involving a potential shooting at Jefferson High School and Tecumsuh Middle School," a department spokesperson said in a statement.
During an investigation with the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime Unit, the 14-year-old was identified and taken into custody. They were arrested on the following preliminary charges:
- Conspiracy to commit burglary (Level 5 felony)
- Conspiracy to commit theft of a firearm
- Conspiracy to commit auto theft
- Dangerous possession of a firearm
In a statement to 13News, a spokesperson with the Lafayette School Corporation said the teen is a student at Tecumseh Junior High School and was taken into custody Sunday night.
"At no point were direct threats made to Tecumseh Jr. High or Jefferson High School," the spokesperson said. "There is no ongoing threat; classes are operating as usual with increased security as an added precaution."
The police department also said it "does not believe there is any ongoing threat" to the schools.
The Tippecanoe County Prosecutor's Office will make final charging decisions in the case.
