5-year-old girl seriously injured in shooting on Indianapolis' northeast side

The shooting happened around 4 p.m. Wednesday near East 38th Street and North Sherman Drive.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after a child was seriously injured in a shooting on Indianapolis' northeast side Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting happened around 4 p.m. March 27 in the 3400 block of Blue Spruce Lane, near East 38th Street and North Sherman Drive.

An IMPD spokesperson said responding officers found a 5-year-old girl with a gunshot wound(s) who was taken to Riley Hospital for Children and most recently listed in serious condition. 

Aggravated assault detectives responded to the scene to begin an investigation.

The spokesperson said police hadn't determined if the shooting happened inside an apartment or outside.

"Preliminary information leads us to believe that there were multiple people inside of the residence [at the time]," IMPD public information officer William Young said, adding that no suspects were in custody as of late afternoon Wednesday.
