INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man was arrested and charged after leading police on a chase because he was running late to work.
According to court documents filed Wednesday, on April 11, an IMPD officer was stationed on Interstate 465 near the 12.6 mile-marker on Indy's southwest side when they saw a blue Dodge Charger with an Ohio license plate traveling at a high rate of speed.
The officer clocked the Charger going 90 mph in a 55-mph zone.
After turning on their emergency lights and siren, the officer said the driver accelerated to 100 mph, cut across three lanes of traffic and exited onto West Washington Street.
Court documents say the driver then turned onto South High School Road before turning west onto Dunn Way. The driver allegedly did so while disregarding stop signs.
The driver then turned onto West Morris Street, and the officer reportedly turned off their emergency lights. That's when court documents say the driver drove around stopped traffic and went through an intersection, nearly causing an accident.
The officer re-initiated the chase, and the driver again disregarded the officer. Court documents say the driver was clocked doing 120 mph in a 40-mph zone and passed a semi-truck in a no-passing zone.
Eventually, the driver, identified as Jordan Aaron Franklin of Indianapolis, stopped at the intersection of Countryside Drive and West Morris Street, stuck both his hands out the driver's side window, and surrendered to police.
After his arrest, Franklin allegedly told police he was sorry and when asked why he was sorry, he replied, "I am sorry for speeding and running from you. I know it is wrong. I'm trying to make it to work. I am running late."
Franklin was arrested for resisting law enforcement and reckless driving. According to online court records, as of April 24, he has only been charged with resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, a felony.
