INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man has been charged with criminal trespassing and battery after allegedly shoving the assistant principal of a Wayne Township elementary school.
Steven C. White, 51, of Indianapolis, is charged with one felony count of criminal trespass and a misdemeanor count of battery.
According to recently released court documents, on Aug. 27 at 7:04 a.m., IMPD officers were dispatched to Maplewood Elementary School on a report of a person battered. When officers arrived, they spoke with the assistant principal who told police that while students were getting off their respective buses and walking into school, staff saw a man, later identified as White, in a pinkish shirt and shorts riding a bike nearby and dumping trash around the school.
Later, as student car riders were being dropped off, White reportedly returned. Court documents say White was seen acting suspiciously. He was allegedly seen trying to give teachers at the school Pokémon cards and also trying to interact with students.
That's when the assistant principal was called to handle the situation.
Court documents say as parents, students and staff were filming White's behavior when the assistant principal told White to leave the property. That's when White allegedly put two hands on the assistant principal's shoulders and shoved him.
Parents reportedly came to the aid and defense of the assistant principal while also making numerous calls to police, according to court documents.
After officers identified White, they discovered he had previously been kicked off the school's property the week prior on Aug. 21.
Online court records say White's initial hearing was held Aug. 28 and his pretrial conference is currently scheduled for Sept. 6 at 8:30 a.m.
