INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man was sentenced to 78 years in prison for his role in the shooting death of a man two years ago.
After a two-day trial, David Ice was found guilty for the murder of Darryl Ransom on Oct. 23, 2024. On Monday, Nov. 25, he was found guilty of the firearm enhancement and the habitual offender sentencing enhancement.
On June 3, 2022, just before 10:30 p.m., IMPD was dispatched to the area of North Dearborn Street on a report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they found Ransom suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
While on scene, detectives spoke with Ransom's son who said that he was upstairs when he heard Ransom talking to someone. Ransom's son told investigators he went downstairs and saw a man wearing a gray sweatshirt and sweatpants talking to his dad. Ransom's son went back upstairs. He told police he then heard Ransom and the suspect start to argue and multiple gunshots.
Other witnesses at the scene identified Ice as the shooter. One woman said she was waiting around the corner for Ice, who she said was wearing a gray sweatsuit.
Police said Ice's GPS monitor showed he was near North Dearborn Street at the time of the murder. He was taken into custody about five hours later.
“Minor conflicts leading to fatal and senseless deaths are becoming too common in our city,” said Prosecutor Ryan Mears. “The defendant’s choice to use a firearm to intimidate and ultimately take a life over a frivolous disagreement was as abhorrent then as it is now. Today, were able to enhance the defendant’s sentence and we are proud to have achieved justice for Mr. Ransom and his son, who tragically heard his father being shot and killed.”
