LAWRENCE, Indiana — A judge sentenced an Indianapolis man to 62 years in prison for a 2021 deadly shooting in Lawrence.

Sean Dixon was sentenced Monday, Aug. 5 for his role in the death of 32-year-old Cameron Anderson.

“Three years ago, the defendant senselessly took Cameron Anderson’s life and put countless others in danger when he opened fire in the middle of the day on one of the city’s major throughfares,” Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said in a statement. “I commend the work of the investigators and the cooperating witnesses who took a stand against this act of violence and made it possible to obtain justice on Mr. Anderson’s behalf.”

Around 1:15 p.m. on July 5, 2021, Lawrence police officers responded to a report of a person shot in the 11300 block of Pendleton Pike, near Sunnyside Road.

Officers arrived and found Anderson outside of his car after he had been shot in the neck. Medics transported Anderson to Methodist Hospital, where he later died.

According to the prosecutor's office, Anderson's car had multiple bullet holes.

Witnesses said a man matching Dixon's description was seen shooting a handgun out of the window of an SUV toward Anderson's car. The SUV then fled the area after the shooting.

During the investigation, witnesses identified Dixon as the suspect.

Through cellphone records, investigators tracked down Dixon's whereabouts before, during and after the shooting occurred, which placed him in the area during Anderson's murder.

Investigators also learned Dixon took his SUV to a repair shop to fix a broken windshield after the shooting.

Dixon was convicted after a two-day trial in May at the Community Justice Center.
