INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man will serve the next 65 years in prison after being convicted of murdering his wife in 2021.
Gabriel Galvez Roblero was sentenced Friday, Dec. 15 after being convicted of murder in the January 2021 killing his wife, Karen Hernandez.
On Jan. 30, 2021, IMPD responded to the 6800 block of Mimosa Lane, near Interstate 74 and Acton Road for a welfare check. The dispatcher told officers that Galvez had called his ex-wife to tell her that he had just killed Hernandez.
During the call to his ex-wife, Galvez told her that he was "on the run" and planned to harm himself. After attempts at bargaining with Galvez, his ex-wife eventually hung up and dialed 911.
Officers arrived to the home and found Hernandez had been shot and killed. No one else was in the building at the time police arrived. The initial investigation found seven fired gun cartridge casings at the crime scene.
Officers alerted other law enforcement agencies to Galvez's vehicle information. Galvez was eventually stopped and arrested in Arkansas by the Arkansas State Police.
A search of Galvez's vehicle found a firearm with shell casings that matched the ones found at the crime scene.
“A mother’s life was taken due to the defendant’s horrendous actions. Ms. Hernandez was a victim of intimate partner violence, and my hope is that if there is any good to come from this devastating incident, it is a heightened awareness of domestic violence and the signs of an abusive relationship,” Prosecutor Ryan Mears said. “Our thoughts remain with Ms. Hernandez’s loved ones as they navigate this tragedy.”
