INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the April 2022 stabbing death of a 74-year-old man.

Earlier in January, Eric Futrell pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter charges in the 2022 death of his stepfather, Bobbie Gene Hill

Lawrence police officers were dispatched to the 12000 block of Teacup Way, near East 62nd Street and Carroll Road 700 West, on April 30, 2022, on reports of a disturbance between a man and his son. Officers arrived and found Futrell in the driveway with blood on his hands and a large knife on the ground.

Officers then discovered Hill suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

According to a release from Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears, detectives obtained doorbell camera footage of Futrell ringing the doorbell before stabbing Hill multiple times after he opened the door. There was no apparent argument or disturbance prior to the stabbing.
