INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man has been charged with a felony after allegedly throwing a point-of-sale machine to the ground and threatening employees at a north side McDonald's over a counterfeit $50 bill.
Douglas Jones Jr. has been charged with felony intimidation and misdemeanor criminal mischief.
According to recently released court documents, around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 29, IMPD officers were called to a McDonald's restaurant located at 37 W. 38th Street, between N. Illinois Street and N. Meridian Street on Indy's north side, on a report of a fight.
When officers arrived, they saw one of the restaurant's shift leaders pinning Jones Jr. to the ground. Officers saw that Jones was bleeding a "fair amount" of blood. Jones was also seen by officers allegedly acting erratically, kicking the windows and screaming. The shift leader was noted in court documents to have remained calm as police arrived.

Officers then broke up the fight and placed Jones in handcuffs. After being read his Miranda rights, Jones allegedly told police that he went to the McDonald's to get dinner and reportedly paid with a $50 bill. The cashier allegedly told Jones that the bill was fake and refused to give it back.
Court documents say that Jones allegedly told police that he demanded the cashier give him the bill back and was then "jumped" by the shift lead.
Jones allegedly told police that he had just cut someone's lawn and had been paid with the aforementioned $50 bill. Court documents note that the bill was "clearly" counterfeit, having no watermarks and being printed on "grainy paper."

Officers then spoke with the shift lead, who told them that they were sitting in the lobby of the restaurant waiting for his shift to start when they overheard an argument between Jones and the cashier.
The shift lead allegedly told police that Jones ripped the point-of-sale tablet off the counter and threw it to the ground. That's when the shift lead told police he got involved with the altercation and Jones allegedly threatened to kill them and harm their co-workers.
Court documents say the shift lead restrained Jones on the ground prior to police arrival.
When Jones' person was searched, court documents say police found a glass pipe with burnt residue in his front pocket. Court documents do not say what substance was possibly in the pipe, but they do note that the pipe is typically used to inhale crack or methamphetamine.
As of the publishing of this article, Jones' initial court date has not yet been set.
