HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. — A 52-year-old Indianapolis man was arrested on a preliminary attempted murder charge after allegedly firing a shot at family members during a disturbance in Hancock County over the weekend.

Shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, deputies with the Hancock County Sheriff's Department responded to an incomplete 911 call on Creekwater Pass, near Mt. Comfort Road and Interstate 70. On the way to the scene, the deputies learned of a disturbance involving several family members at a house there, "during which one member fired at least one shot."

The suspect was located at the scene by officers and taken into custody. Family members told police the suspect threatened them, and when they tried to run, he fired at least one shot inside the home, toward the family, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies found a bullet hole in the front door, and a bullet was located in the exterior of a house nearby. A gun and "bag of controlled substance" were located near the suspect, police said.

The suspect was taken to the Hancock County Jail and faces preliminary charges of attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a domestic batterer, criminal recklessness and possession of a controlled substance.

(NOTE: 13News does not name suspects until charges have been filed by prosecutors.)

The Hancock County Prosecutor's Office will make final charging decisions in the case.
