INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD arrested a 24-year-old man for his alleged role in a homicide that happened last summer at an east Indianapolis motel.
Just before 3 p.m. on June 25, 2023, officers responded to the 6800 block of East 21st Street, near Shadeland Avenue, on a report of a person shot at the Budget 8 Inn.
Police arrived and found 23-year-old Kenneth Barnett with gunshot wound injuries. IEMS arrived and later pronounced Barnett dead on the scene.
Investigators spent hours at the scene, collecting evidence, including surveillance video from the hotel next door.
Detectives continued to investigate and were able to identify the alleged suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Anthony Morst, of Indianapolis.
On Wednesday, June 12, IMPD said the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office filed a murder charge, and a warrant was issued for Morst's arrest.
On Tuesday, June 18, with the assistance of the IMPD Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) and the IMPD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Morst was taken into custody in the 2300 block of Danford Square, near North Michigan and Westland roads, and arrested for the active warrant.
