INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis landlord has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a tenant and threatening her with a knife.

The landlord faces preliminary charges of intimidation with a deadly weapon and battery with injury.

According to recently released court documents, on Tuesday, Aug. 27, IMPD officers responded to the 9500 block of Maple Way, near West 96th Street and Township Line Road on Indy's north side, on a report of a disturbance with a weapon.

When officers arrived, they reportedly found a "disheveled" woman standing in the doorway of an apartment. Court documents note that the officer found the woman to be frightened, shaking and missing a chunk of her hair.

The woman allegedly told police that the incident began during an argument between her roommate and landlord. During the argument, the woman said the landlord grabbed her hair and began to drag her around the apartment.

Court documents say the landlord allegedly grabbed a knife during the argument and told the woman, "I can really make you hurt."

At some point during the scuffle, the woman was able to break away from the landlord.

According to court documents, police found the knife under a couch in the living room of the apartment, and the furniture had been thrown around the apartment, indicating some sort of disturbance had occurred.

Police noted in court documents that chunks of hair, believed to be the woman's, were found on the floor near where the disturbance started. The landlord was allegedly found inside the garage and arrested by police.

While being read his Miranda rights, the landlord allegedly told police he did not do anything.

As of the publishing of this article, the landlord has not been charged. However, online court records indicate an emergency hearing regarding a previous eviction case has been scheduled for Sept. 10 at 1:30 p.m.
