'I'm going to fight until I die or until I find justice' | Family still searching for answers in 2018 Lawrence murder

Aaron Grice was killed one day after Christmas five years ago.

LAWRENCE, Indiana — 2023 marks five years since Aaron Grice was murdered. His sister and mother said they found his body in the Canterbury House Apartments, near North Franklin Road and East 47th Street in Lawrence.

Mary Love said she still has many questions about what happened to her son one day after Christmas in 2018.

"He basically told us who he got in a fight with, what happened and he told us to come and get him. We were expecting to find him alive, not dead," Love said.

Grice was just 22 years old when he was fatally shot after a disagreement about a dice game.

"That day always plays in my head. It never goes away, especially around Christmas. It feels like nightmares over and over in my head. He was laying down on the ground. I tried to give him CPR. It didn't work," Love said.

Grice would be 27 years old now. His mother said he's missed so much.

"He's got two kids, a 9-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter. They miss him like crazy," Love said.

Aaron Grice, 22, was found dead Dec. 26, 2018, at the Canterbury House Apartments, near North Franklin Road and East 47th Street in Lawrence.

After all this time, there still hasn't been an arrest. Love said she's discouraged by the lack of movement on the case.

"I'm fighting my son's case, but I'm fighting it by myself because they don't care," Love said.

13News reached out to Lawrence Deputy Chief of Police Gary Woodruff about the investigation. He told us there are no updates and that detectives urge anyone who has information to come forward to help give Grice's family justice.

Love said it would mean the world to her.

"If you have a conscience and know what happened, open up and talk. Free your conscience and free your mind. It's going to always eat you if you don't ever talk," Love said.

She said she will never stop fighting until that day happens.

"That was my son," Love said. "My baby. The only son I had. I'm going to fight until I die or until I find justice."
