INDIANAPOLIS — A prisoner at the Indiana Women's Prison is charged with burning the face of prison guard using microwaved shaving cream.

Nina Holbrook is serving time for burning her father to death with lighter fluid in 2011.

According to court documents, a guard saw Holbrook using a microwave on June 15, 2023. He told investigators that she then threw a cup of something onto his face.

He suffered facial burns and had to be taken to the emergency room for treatment.

Investigators say the entire thing was caught on surveillance video. According to court documents, in the video, Holbrook is seen microwaving a cup full of chemical shaving cream, which she then throws in the corrections officer's face.

Despite his burns, the guard managed to subdue Holbrook and put her in cuffs.

She then allegedly told guards that she didn't remember the incident and that voices in her head were "telling me to hurt him."

According to court documents, an evaluation determined "this event was not caused by mental health issues."

Holbrook is charged with battery of a public official and resisting arrest.

"I set my dad on fire"

Holbrook is in the Indiana women's prison for murder and arson.

She killed her father, Carl Holbrook, in their home in Milton, Indiana in 2011. Holbrook admitted she called her father into her room, where she threw a cup of gasoline on him and lit him on fire with a candle.

According to court documents, her father lived long enough to tell someone that she was responsible.

Her uncle told police Holbrook admitted to killing her father by saying "I torched him" and "I set my dad on fire."

Holbrook spent years in and out of hospitals for mental health treatment, before pleading guilty but mentally ill to murder and arson. She was sentenced to 55 years in prison.
