INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating after a woman was found fatally shot in a car at a Madison County cemetery.
On Wednesday, June 26, around 3 p.m., deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a "suspicious vehicle" in the Forrestville Cemetery, located at 1650 S N St.
The Madison County Sheriff's Department said dispatchers received a 911 call from a witness who saw a dark-colored SUV parked near the back of the cemetery. The 911 caller said there were two people in the SUV, a man and a woman, who were unresponsive when the caller knocked on the window.
When officers arrived, they found Michela Hinson, 47, of Anderson, dead in the driver’s seat and a 47-year-old man, also from Anderson, sitting in the front passenger seat.
The Madison County Sheriff's Department said it was "apparent" that Hinson has been shot multiple times. Investigators also recovered a handgun from the crime scene.
Police said the man was taken into custody and later booked at the Madison County Jail for murder without bond.
(NOTE: 13News does not name suspects until formal charges are filed by prosecutors.)
An autopsy for Hinson is scheduled for Friday, June 28.
Authorities are working to figure out the circumstances that led up to the shooting.
