INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana State Police arrested a 24-year-old man from New Palestine in connection with a Feb. 22 crash that critically injured four people.
According to a release from ISP, around 5:20 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, an ISP trooper saw a gray Ford Mustang that was spinning its tires and drifting sideways out of a parking lot and onto 10th Street, near Tibbs Avenue.
The Mustang then allegedly sped up and fled westbound on 10th Street. The ISP trooper then attempted to pull the driver over.
According to police, the driver of the Mustang refused to pull over and continued to accelerate, leading to a pursuit.
The chase continued westbound on 10th Street before eventually shifting southbound on Holt Road.
As the Mustang approached the intersection of Holt Road and Michigan Street, it went through a red light and crashed into a white Buick Enclave at a high rate of speed.
A driver and passenger of the Buick were critically injured, as were the driver and passenger of the Mustang. The driver of the Buick was identified as a 33-year-old woman. Her and her passenger were hospitalized for several days due to their injuries, according to police.
Police then launched an investigation into the crash and found that the Mustang crashed into the Buick at approximately 100 miles per hour and made no attempt at braking.
The driver of the Mustang, identified as a 24-year-old Joseph Means, of New Palestine, spoke with officers while he was in the hospital. Police say they located cocaine and marijuana in his personal belongings while he was in the hospital. He was transferred to the Marion County Jail following his March 9 release from the hospital.
A search warrant revealed that marijuana, Means' ID and several cellphones were found in the Mustang.
Means was formally charged March 11 with three counts of resisting law enforcement and one count of possession of cocaine.
His initial court hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, March 12.
