ROCHESTER, Ind. — Indiana State Police has been asked to assist with an investigation into a deadly police shooting in northern Indiana.

According to a release from ISP, around 10:48 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, officers with the Rochester Police Department and Fulton County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence on a report of a domestic disturbance involving a firearm.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a Rochester man, 37-year-old Steven T. Harding, inside the residence. Police say he was armed with a firearm and was pointing it in the direction of an officer. That's when both an officer and a deputy fired their weapons at least once, fatally injuring Harding.

No officers were injured in the incident while the officer and deputy have both been placed on administrative leave, per standard protocol.

Indiana State Police will lead the investigation while being assisted by the Fulton County Coroner's Office and the Fulton County Prosecutor's Office.
