NAPPANNEE, Ind. (WTHR) — A mother and daughter from Nappannee are facing felony charges for corrupt business influence and forgery after the pair allegedly bootlegged clothes from Victoria's Secret and resold them through a racketeering scheme.
Our newsgathering partners at the Goshen News report 41-year-old Wendy Skwarcan-Stoll and her 18-year-old daughter Alexis McCartney used counterfeit coupons to buy merchandise from Victoria's Secret stores around the Great Lakes region, then resold the items in a Facebook group.
Victoria's Secret's corporate security alerted Nappannee Police while investigating fake coupons used at a store in Wisconsin. They tracked down credit card information from a purchase and linked it to Skwarcan-Stoll.
Investigators found the mother and daughter bought more than $100,000 in merchandise at stores in Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan. Then they sold the items in Facebook in a group called Pink Ladies Closet. The group's Facebook page indicates it has about 300 members. They did this for about a year before getting caught.
Nappannee Police searched the trash outside Skwarcan-Stoll's home and found receipts and bags from Victoria's Secret, shipping labels, a handheld receipt generator and a credit card scanner. Police confirmed the the receipt generator and credit card scanner were stolen from a Victoria's Secret store in Flint, Michigan.
Police arrested Skwarcan-Stoll and McCartney Feb. 20. According to court records, they have both bonded out of jail. They are scheduled to appear in court in Elkhart Friday.
