RUSHVILLE, Ind. (WTHR) — An Indiana man was sentenced to a combined 590 years in prison for child molestation.
Bruce A. Sorenson was convicted on 14 counts of child molesting and sexual misconduct with a minor, our newsgathering partner the Rushville Republican reported.
The sentencing was decided by Circuit Court Judge David Northam who cited the victims ages, when the abuse began, the harm done and Sorenson's position of trust in relation to the victims, Rushville Republican reported.
Some of his crimes date back to 1997.
Sorenson was convicted in January after three victims testified and the jury learned that Sorenson had fled the jurisdiction after bonding out of jail on the original charges.
Judge Northam ordered Sorenson to serve the sentences for each charge consecutively.
Sorenson is a credit restricted felon under Indiana law, meaning that even with earned “good time” credit, he actually would have to serve more than 85% of his 590 year sentence before being eligible for release. He is currently 51 years old.
