IMPD: More than 10 arrested, cars impounded and missing children found in weekend reckless driving crackdown

"This partnership and crackdown should send a clear message: Reckless driving and spinning will not be tolerated in our city," IMPD Chief Chris Bailey said.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD announced Monday that more than 10 people had been arrested and multiple cars were impounded in a weekend reckless driving "crackdown" in partnership with state police.

The department said in a social media post that officers also seized guns and drugs, "underscoring out commitment to keeping our roads and community safe."

"This partnership and crackdown should send a clear message: Reckless driving and spinning will not be tolerated in our city," IMPD Chief Chris Bailey said in the statement. "By removing illegal weapons and narcotics from our streets, we’re making Indianapolis safer for all."

IMPD and ISP officers and detectives found and disrupted "multiple large gatherings" of "spinners" throughout Indianapolis with support from drones, the IMPD SWAT team and ISP helicopter.

Among those arrested were both adults and minors, police said, noting they face preliminary charges ranging from criminal recklessness and reckless driving to resisting law enforcement, possession of marijuana and possession of cocaine.

Police recovered stolen guns and cars, as well as two missing children, IMPD said.

There were no further details shared on the missing children.

"This is a reminder that reckless behavior has serious consequences, and we will continue working with our public safety partners to protect our streets and neighborhoods," the department said in the social media post.
