IMPD: Suspect arrested in 'intentional' deadly hit-and-run crash on Indy's west side

Perry Banks, 40, was killed in the crash early Oct. 19 near West Washington Street and Interstate 465.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD announced the arrest of a suspect in an alleged "intentional" hit-and-run crash that killed a man on Indianapolis' west side over the weekend.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 in the 5700 block of West Morris Street, which is near West Washington Street and Interstate 465.

When officers arrived, they found 40-year-old Perry Banks with traumatic injuries lying in the parking lot of a bar. Banks was taken in critical condition to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

IMPD said they learned the incident was an "intentional act" by the suspect, and the IMPD Homicide Unit was contacted to respond to the scene.

"It is believed a disturbance occurred at the establishment between two individuals that were known to one another," IMPD said following the incident.

Officers said the disturbance was broken up by people at the bar, and the suspect was asked to leave. While leaving the bar, the suspect entered their vehicle and, in what IMPD believes to be an "intentional act," drove an SUV into a crowd of people outside the bar and hit Banks. The suspect then drove away.
