Police arrest 19-, 20-year-olds after southeast Indy traffic stop leads to guns with Glock switches, drugs

Police recovered two handguns with Glock switches, another handgun with an extended magazine, a rifle, marijuana and scales.

INDIANAPOLIS โ€” A traffic stop Tuesday night on the southeast side of Indianapolis led to the arrest of two men who allegedly had multiple guns with Glock switches and drugs.

IMPD said officers were following up on information Dec. 19 about the location of a possible fugitive, 20-year-old Kevion Noel, of Indianapolis, who had a warrant for dealing marijuana and resisting law enforcement. Officers were also told Noel might be armed.

While in the area, officers tried to stop a car for a traffic violation near Shelby and Albany streets. According to IMPD, the car initially stopped but then sped away, leading to a chase.

Police said the driver, later identified as a 19-year-old man, stopped the car near Nelson and Dietz streets, approximately one mile northeast from where the traffic violation happened.

According to IMPD, the 19-year-old driver ran from the car, jumped over a fence and dropped a backpack he was carrying.

Officers found the 19-year-old driver a short distance away and took him into custody. 

Police said officers found a handgun with a Glock switch and extended magazine, a second handgun with an extended magazine, marijuana and scales in the backpack. Police said they also found a rifle in the driver's seat of the car.

According to IMPD, Noel was not in car they stopped for the traffic violation, so they went to the 1500 block of Cruft Street, near Shelby Street and Nelson Avenue, to look for him.

Officers found Noel in the driver's seat of another car in the 1500 block of Cruft Street and took him into custody. Police said they found a handgun with a Glock switch under the driver's seat, along with marijuana and scales in the car.

Noel was arrested on his warrant, as well as preliminary charges of possession of a machine gun, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and dealing marijuana.

Police arrested the 19-year-old driver on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement in a motor vehicle, resisting law enforcement by fleeing, possession of a machine gun and dealing marijuana.

The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will make the final charging decisions.
