INDIANAPOLIS — Court records allege Kiara Whitney fired shots into the back seat of a moving car near 30th Street and Post Road Nov. 17 in a suspected road rage incident.
Those shots nearly hit a 4-year-old and 1-year-old in the back seat of that car. There is a warrant out for Whitney's arrest. She was formally charged with two felony counts of criminal recklessness last week.
Court documents show Whitney almost ran into the victim's car because she was driving while on her phone. The victim tried to drive round Whitney's car, when she allegedly rolled down her window and said, 'I don't give a **** about them kids. I'll blow their head off,' before firing two shots through a back window.
Police said shattered glass fell on both of the children, but no injuries were reported.
Court records show the victim then followed Whitney's car to a nearby park where she said, "I should have shot one of your kids in the ******* head."
"It's extremely frustrating. I think that we will do everything we can to take this individual into custody because it could've been a lot worse than what happened," said IMPD Ofc. William Young. "We've seen too many acts of violence throughout. One is too many, but for you to take it upon yourself and fire into an automobile that's traveling and it has children in it. It's very concerning."
The probable cause affidavit shows the victims saw the suspect's license plate number and gave it to police.
IMPD said license plate reading cameras across the city have been crucial in making arrests in cases like these.
"Most of these people we do catch based off that technology that's been, that our citizens have afforded our police department to have," said Young. "You may think you're going to get away with it, but you're not."
