IMPD has released edited bodycam footage from an October officer-involved shooting at an east side Burger King on their YouTube channel.

The shooting happened in the area of East 21st Street and North Shadeland Avenue shortly before 6 p.m. Oct. 26.

According to IMPD Assistant Chief Chris Bailey, officers were conducting an investigation at the Rodeway Inn on the northwest corner of East 21st Street and North Shadeland Avenue when they recognized a man, later identified by the Marion County Coroner's Office as 37-year-old Frederick Davis, who had been trespassing.

As officers ordered Davis to put his hands on a car, he did not comply and ran away from the scene, Bailey said. As officers drove toward a Burger King restaurant where Davis was seen running, an employee of the restaurant told them a man had just come running inside the building.

Two officers found Davis near the bathroom in the Burger King.

Each officer reportedly grabbed one of the Davis' arms in an attempt to place him into handcuffs. A struggle ensued, and the officers and Davis ended up on the ground.

In the edited footage, Officer Nicolas Deem can be seen struggling with Davis on the ground. The footage then shows Davis reaching for and eventually grabbing Deem's gun.

In the video, IMPD breaks down the incident moment-by-moment, showing Davis grabbing Deem's gun before the officer fires his backup weapon. Davis can be seen dropping the weapon and then running out of the store with gunshot wounds.

Davis can be seen running into the parking lot before collapsing. He was apprehended and arrested before being taken to Eskenazi Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

In October, IMPD said Deem had "significant" bullet fragments in his leg, with the largest fragment being close to his femur.

IMPD said a doctor believes some of those fragments might stay in Deem's leg forever.
