IMPD video shows moments before man shot and killed, pregnant suspect wounded near Lucas Oil Stadium

The shooting happened Sept. 22 on South Missouri Street, just west of Lucas Oil Stadium.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD released an edited video showing the moments leading to officers shooting two people, one of whom was killed, near Lucas Oil Stadium Sept. 22.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the man shot and killed as 27-year-old Ricktez Williams. IMPD identified the officers involved as Sergeant Jeremy Steward, Officer Kenneth Kunz, and Officer Dalton Hair. 

According to IMPD's video, detectives saw Williams enter a Dollar General in the 2200 block of South Shelby Street. He then exited with a bag, and detectives learned from an employee the store was just robbed.

Police said Williams got into a car being driven by 25-year-old Eriana Morris.

The car was stopped by police near the 600 block of South Missouri Street, just west of Lucas Oil Stadium. 

According to IMPD, Williams then shot at officers. Three officers then shot at Williams, hitting and killing him, and wounding Morris. 

In the video released Nov. 14, it appears Williams points a gun out of the passenger window and fires multiple shots at the officers' cars.

IMPD officers can then be heard firing back.

When officers approach Morris, she can be heard telling them she is pregnant as they call for medics.

Morris was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Williams was also taken to the hospital but died from his injuries.

No officers were injured.

The IMPD spokesperson said there was no one at Lucas Oil Stadium at the time of the shooting, and no other injuries were reported.

Police said several officers had body-worn cameras that activated, and part of the incident was recorded on a dashboard camera in one of the officers' vehicles.

The officers who fired at the suspects have been placed on administrative leave, pending an internal investigation, per IMPD protocol in an officer-involved shooting. A mandatory hearing will also be held by the civilian-majority Use of Force Review Board after the criminal process has concluded.
