26-year-old man killed in shooting on Indy's south side

The shooting happened around 9:15 a.m. Monday in the 7700 block of Portage Avenue, near Madison Avenue and Stop 11 Road.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after a man died from his injuries in a shooting Monday morning on the south side of Indianapolis.

Around 9:15 a.m. July 8, IMPD officers responded to a report of a person shot in the 7700 block of Portage Avenue, near Madison Avenue and Stop 11 Road.

(NOTE: The video above is from a previous report when police said the victim in the shooting was in critical condition.)

Officers said they found a man, who had been shot, inside of a home. IMPD said the victim was in critical condition when medics took him to a local hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly after.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as 26-year-old Aaron Shawn McClinton.

According to IMPD, detectives spoke with the suspect, and after consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, detectives released the suspect, pending further investigation.
