INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - An IMPD officer was arrested Thursday on allegations of shoplifting and resisting law enforcement in Greenwood.

IMPD says Ofc. Suzanne Binder was arrested by the Greenwood Police Department after a report of a shoplifter at the Meijer store on Marlin Drive. Binder reportedly stole sleep aid medication and vitamins from the store while she shopped with her parents.

Binder is a 14-year veteran of the department who had been assigned to the Manpower Pool for non-disciplinary reasons. Police say at the time of her arrest, Binder had no police powers and was not serving in an active duty capacity.

IMPD's Special Investigative Unit is conducting an independent criminal investigation in cooperation with the Greenwood Police Department.

New IMPD Chief Bryan Roach suspended Binder without pay pending a recommendation of termination to the Police Merit Board.
