IMPD: Man and woman found dead after murder-suicide on Indianapolis' east side

Officers discovered the two people inside a home while responding to a welfare check Thursday evening near 10th Street and North Sherman Drive.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after two people were found dead with gunshot wounds on Indianapolis' east side Thursday evening following what detectives believe was a murder-suicide.

Around 8 p.m. Sept. 5, officers were called to the 1300 block of North Chester Avenue, near 10th Street and North Sherman Drive, to conduct a welfare check.

There they discovered a "foul odor emitting from the residence" before entering through an unsecured door after making announcements, a department spokesperson said in a statement.

Inside, officers found two unresponsive people, 32-year-old Natalie Kyles and 30-year-old Frederick Kyles Jr., with gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Marion County Coroner's Office list's Frederick's cause of death as a suicide and Natalie's cause of death as a homicide.

"I was in the house watching TV, and I seen all the red lights and stuff," said Rita Taylor, a woman who lives just a few doors down.

She has lived in the neighborhood a few years and said she would see the woman outside.

"They were very nice," said Taylor.

As for when the shooting actually took place, IMPD says that is still under investigation, but some neighbors say it had been a few days since anyone had seen the two people.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin an investigation. The Marion County Coroner's Office will identify the two people once family has been notified.

Anyone with additional information on the incident is asked to contact Det. Lottie Patrick at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or Lottie.Patrick@indy.gov.
