IMPD: Victim's brother arrested after deadly shooting in Indy's Crown Hill neighborhood

The shooting was reported around 11:15 p.m. Sunday near North Capitol Avenue and 38th Street.

INDIANAPOLIS — The brother of a man killed in a shooting on Indianapolis' near north side late Sunday has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the incident, IMPD announced Wednesday.

The shooting was reported around 11:15 p.m. April 14 in the 3700 block of Boulevard Place, near North Capitol Avenue and 38th Street in the Crown Hill neighborhood.

According to court documents, a woman called saying her husband had been shot.

An IMPD spokesperson said responding officers located a man with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 37-year-old Damon Anderson.

His wife told police that Anderson and his brother had been arguing earlier in the night, according to detectives. She allegedly said her husband started putting his hands on his brother's shoulders and neck. She said the brother then shot her husband. She said the brother then shot her husband two or three more times when he was on the ground.

When questioned by police, the brother allegedly told detectives Anderson was beating him up and told him it was going to be "me or you." He said Anderson tried to grab his gun and said, "If you don't do it to me, I'm going to do it to you," according to court documents. He allegedly said his brother kept coming toward him after the first shot and so he fired four more shots.

IMPD arrested the 28-year-old brother on a preliminary murder charge.

The man turned himself in to police on Wednesday, IMPD said.
