School lockdowns lifted after search for suspect believed to be armed on Indy's southwest side

IMPD is in the 5000 block of West Raymond Street on Oct. 2, 2024, to search for a suspect who is believed to be armed.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD officers were looking for a suspect believed to be armed on the city's southwest side Wednesday morning.

The department posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, at 9:40 a.m. Oct. 2 that officers were in the 5000 block of West Raymond Street, near South Lynhurst Drive. 

IMPD's drone unit, K-9 and SWAT officers responded to the scene. 

Police said they were not able to find a suspect in the area.

Nearby schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution, but police said at 10:19 a.m. that the lockdowns have been lifted.

Drivers and pedestrians were also asked to avoid the area during the investigation.
