INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis police are investigating a deadly shooting on the city's near north side Friday evening.
According to IMPD, around 10:45 p.m. Aug. 23, officers responded to the 1700 block of East 34th Street, near Keystone Avenue, on a report of a person shot.
When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot. He was reported to be in critical condition, but later died from his injuries, police said.
The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as 48-year-old Edward Franklin Gray Jr.
An IMPD spokesperson told 13News officers were told there was a disturbance inside a home. Dispatchers had received an incomplete 911 call and, as they responded, a neighbor called to report a person had been shot.
Police said there was a large group of people at the scene of the shooting. One possible witness was being interviewed by detectives, while police said they believe 20 or 30 others may have seen what happened.
On Aug. 26, IMPD said they arrested a suspect. In an update the next day on social media, the department credited community assistance and "various investigative techniques" in the arrest of a 43-year-old man, who was taken into custody Monday in the 3600 block of North Keystone Avenue.
(NOTE: 13News does not name suspects in cases until formal charges are filed by prosecutors.)
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will make final charging decisions in the case.
