39-year-old man found fatally shot in pickup truck on Indy's east side; suspect charged

Officers responding to the area of East 21st Street and North Ritter Avenue found a person shot around 7 p.m. Sunday.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after one person was killed in a shooting on Indianapolis' east side Sunday evening.

Around 7 p.m. March 3, an officer was flagged down and alerted to a crash/disturbance near a liquor store in a strip mall in the 5400 block of East 21st Street, near North Ritter Avenue. The officer discovered a man in the passenger seat of a pickup truck with a gunshot wound. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 39-year-old Corey L. Reed.

Officers detained a "person of interest" at the scene, an IMPD spokesperson said, adding that detectives will be investigating what, if any, role another vehicle at the scene with significant damage had in the incident.

Officers arrested 45-year-old Curtis Page Jr., of Indianapolis, for his alleged role in the murder.

The Marion County Prosecutor's Office filed charges on Thursday of murder and lawful carrying of a handgun.

IMPD is investigating after one person was killed in a shooting near East 21st Street and North Ritter Avenue March 3, 2024.

According to court documents, a witness saw Page driving a pickup truck that hit his car while entering the parking lot. The witness said Page went across and exited the car through the passenger's side and dropped a gun on the ground near the back of the truck. Surveillance video also confirmed the witness' statements.

Another witness told detectives Page went in the liquor store and dropped two gun magazine clips, which was also seen in surveillance footage.

Court documents say detectives found three fired shell casings in the truck and the gun behind the truck. Detectives determined the three gunshot wounds traveled from left to right.

"Whenever we have a complex scene of a sort when officers arrive, the scene shuts down and we rope off everything (so) that we don't miss anything, and we try to piece together and speak with those witnesses if they're in the area," said IMPD Ofc. William Young said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Detective TyAnn Lambert at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or email TyAnn.Lambert@indy.gov. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
