IMPD arrests man for shooting son-in-law, killing friend on west side

An arrest affidavit says Jerome Booth shot and killed Willie Hoskins, then shot his own son-in-law Sunday morning on Booth's driveway.

INDIANAPOLIS — Police arrested a 58-year-old man for killing another man who was found dead in a vehicle parked outside a house on the city's west side early Sunday.

Jerome Booth was arrested for murder after his son-in-law said Booth shot both him and his friend, later identified as Willie Hoskins, 39, outside Booth's Rockville Road house following an argument.

The incident began at around 3 a.m., when IMPD officers were called to a gas station near the intersection of West Washington Street and Holt Road for a person shot.

They arrived to find a man who had been shot in the neck. Police later identified the man as Booth's son-in-law, and said he was conscious, alert and stable in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Aggravated Assault detectives were assigned to the investigation. The man, who police say is married to Booth's daughter, said he and Hoskins were both shot by Booth.

Detectives found Hoskins in the back of an SUV in a nearby driveway on Rockville Road near Holt Road, which is just a block north of the gas station where the first man was found.

Hoskins was pronounced dead at the scene.

IMPD homicide detectives took up the case. They located Booth inside the house where the body was found in the SUV and detained him and a woman who was also in the house for questioning.

The woman corroborated the son-in-law's statement that Booth shot Hoskins, then shot his son-in-law.

Detectives also found a pistol behind the house that the woman believed Booth tossed into a line of trees.

Jail records indicate Booth has been scheduled to go to court Wednesday to face formal charges.
