INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after one person was shot outside an east Indianapolis Texas Roadhouse Sunday afternoon.
Around 5:30 p.m. March 3, officers responding to a shots fired call at the restaurant along Shadeland Avenue, near East 16th Street, found a man with a gunshot wound.
The man was described by police as "awake and breathing" when taken to a local hospital, and an IMPD spokesperson later described the man's condition as "stable."
Detectives were working to determine whether shots were fired inside or outside the restaurant, police said.
"We were sure scared for our lives," said Manuel Lothschuetz, who was in the restaurant parking lot with his wife and kids. "In front of our car, there was a Black male with black pants, dreadlocks, and a handgun, I would say running north on the sidewalk in front of our car and turning around and shot multiple times back toward the Roadhouse. I was just waiting for something to happen. Hitting our car, hitting the kids, and that's something you wouldn't expect to happen, that's something you'd see on the news or in a movie."
In a statement shared with 13News, a Texas Roadhouse spokesperson said "given that the incident took place outside the restaurant, thankfully, no employees or guests were injured."
The spokesperson said the company has provided counseling services to employees onsite and via telephone, and the location will reopen at 4 p.m. Monday, March 4.
"My son, he is 10 and he stayed home from school today because it really bothered him. It's something that kids digest differently than us, but it really puts your life into perspective, that's how fast it can be over," Lothschuetz said.
No additional information on the circumstances of the shooting has been shared by police.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
