IMPD searching for suspect after 32-year-old woman killed in hit-and-run crash on Indy's near northwest side

Officers responded to a report of a person struck in the 2800 block of East Riverside Drive Sunday evening.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed one pedestrian Sunday night on the city's near northwest side.

Officers responded to a report of a person struck in the 1500 block of West 28th Street, near Taggart Riverside Park, shortly before 8:30 p.m. Aug. 18.

IMPD Patrol Sgt. John Arvin said a vehicle was driving on 28th Street at a high rate of speed when it lost control and struck a woman while she was standing outside of her vehicle talking to her friends. 

She was pronounced dead at the scene. 

On Monday, the Marion County Coroner's Office identified the woman as 32-year-old Dominique Renee Berryhill.

Arvin said the suspect fled on foot and IMPD was looking for them.

"It's a tragedy when something like this happens," Arvin said. 

The incident is under investigation.
