INDIANAPOLIS — A 25-year-old man has been arrested and is facing preliminary charges of attempted murder following a shooting on Indy's northeast side Saturday night.
According to IMPD, shortly before 9 p.m. on June 1, officers were in the area of 62nd Street and Allisonville Road when they heard shots being fired in the area.
Neighbors making 911 helped lead officers to the 6300 block of Brookline Drive. A witness told police someone they knew had been shot, but they did not know where that person was. As officers searched the area, they eventually found a man in a nearby wooded area who had been shot.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but police say the man died from to injuries hours later.
The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 31-year-old Derek Host.
Shortly after the initial shooting call, police said they responded to a report of a walk-in person shot at Community North Hospital. During the investigation, police identified the walk-in victim as the 25-year-old suspect in the Brookline Drive shooting.
The 25-year-old suspect was arrested and is facing preliminary charges of attempted murder. Detectives said they recovered "multiple" firearms during their investigation.
