Suspect arrested after 40-year-old man killed in shooting on Indianapolis’ near west side

Officers responded the 100 block of South Belmont Avenue, just south of West Washington Street, around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD arrested a 27-year-old man on a preliminary murder charge following a deadly shooting on Indianapolis' near west side Tuesday evening.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Feb. 27, officers responded to the 100 block of South Belmont Avenue, just south of West Washington Street, for a report of a person shot. Officers located a man with trauma who was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the man as 40-year-old Randy Wayne White and said his death was a homicide. 

"Based on various evidence, including cooperative community members," detectives identified the suspect, who was taken into custody on Feb. 29 without incident and arrested on a preliminary murder charge, IMPD said in a statement.

The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will make final charging decisions in the case.
