INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after shots were fired at an unmarked police car Wednesday night on the city's near east side. Police said the gunfire also hit a nearby home.
IMPD Violent Crimes Unit detectives and SWAT officers were looking to serve a warrant for evidence related to a criminal investigation.
Officers said they found the suspect, along with three other people, in a car around 10 p.m. Sept. 11 near North Rural and East 10th streets.
According to IMPD, a detective in an unmarked car was watching the people when shots were fired from the suspect's car, hitting the detective's car in the 1600 block of North Olney Street, near Brookside Park.
Within minutes, SWAT officers took the four people – three adults and one juvenile – into custody. Police said they found four guns in the suspect's car.
According to police, one of the people taken into custody was arrested on a warrant for an unrelated charge. Officers arrested the juvenile for dangerous possession of a handgun by a juvenile.
Police said the other two people were released after questioning at the IMPD Homicide Office.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decisions.
No one was injured in the incident, and police confirmed no officers fired their weapons during the incident.
