Man found fatally shot on Indy’s near northeast side; homicide investigation underway

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after a man was found fatally shot Wednesday morning on the near northeast side of Indianapolis.

Police responded to a report of a person down at East 21st and Sheldon streets, near Dr. Andrew J. Brown and Hillside avenues, shortly before 10:30 a.m. Oct. 2.

Officers arrived and found a victim "with injuries consisted with trauma," police said. Medics arrived and pronounced the person dead.

In an update, an IMPD spokesperson said the victim, believed to be a man, was found with a gunshot wound. Shell casings were found at the scene. The man was found along a small roadway, and the spokesperson said it wasn't clear how long he had been there.

The Marion County Coroner's Office will identify the man once family has been notified.

Police have not shared information about a possible suspect or motive at this time.
