'Right place, right time for the right reason' | Good Samaritan finds two missing baby girls after the car they were in was stolen in Indy

Police said the car was stolen around 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2024.

INDIANAPOLIS — UPDATE: Two baby girls who were taken with a stolen car have been found in Indianapolis.

IMPD is investigating after a car was stolen with two children inside.

Police said they responded to the report of a stolen car in the 1800 block of Gimber Street around 11 a.m. Monday.

Police confirmed there were two children inside of the vehicle: a 4-month-old and 5-month-old were both in the back.

IMPD said the stolen, 2013 Grey Hyundai Sonata had the license plate number: 364CMU. According to police, there is a distinct sticker in the rear window that reads "IN LOVING MEMORY OF COURTNEY NICOLE."

A man called 911 shortly after the car was stolen. The man said that he went out to get a package that had been delivered and found two children in car seats in a ditch. He went to check them and found the babies inside. The man took them inside out of the cold. Police confirmed the two babies were the missing girls and that they were safe.

The good Samaritan said he didn't want any credit, and that it was his birthday.

"I can't thank that good Samaritan enough," IMPD Officer William Young said. "It's cold out here, who knows what would have happened if this particular individual hadn't gone outside."

The car was found near where the children were left in the 1300 block of Riley Avenue.

"We do not have a suspect in custody yet," Young said. "Our next priority is to figure out who was responsible for this."

13News asked the good Samaritan what his plans for the rest of the day were.

"Go to work," the man said.
