IMPD arrests suspect in serial robberies across Indianapolis

The suspect is accused of robbing nine Family Dollar, Dollar General, Walgreens and CVS stores over four months.

INDIANAPOLIS — Police have arrested a suspect they say is responsible for nine robberies at stores across the city.

The latest one, according to police, happened only Sunday. According to IMPD, the suspect is just 18 years old.

Arresting documents show the suspect allegedly committed this most recent robbery wearing a black ski mask, sunglasses, and purple surgical gloves.

According to those same arresting documents, the suspect went into a Family Dollar Sunday morning on East New York Avenue, pointed a gun at employees and demanded money and then took off.

"Through various investigative techniques, they were able to identify where this individual was," said IMPD Lt. Shane Foley.

When police tried to pull the suspect over, court documents show, he got out of a car and ran.

"Ultimately, IMPD and K-9 SWAT officers located the individual and he complied with officers' instructions and was taken into custody without incident," Foley said.

Police say the suspect admitted to them he was responsible for eight other robberies across the city at other Family Dollar, Dollar General, Walgreens and CVS stores.

All of those robberies have occurred since July.

"In all of these incidents, the suspect was going in armed and targeting the safe of all of these businesses," Foley said.

Court documents show when police searched the suspect's car, they found $600 in a gray bag from Sunday's robbery and more money in the glove box that the suspect told them was connected to some of the earlier robberies.

Detectives also found bank receipts from deposits made at an ATM and a 9 mm handgun with a magazine with 26 rounds in it.

Police point to witnesses providing information to investigators for helping identify the suspect.
