INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD arrested a man for impersonating an officer after a person said the man pulled them over.

It allegedly happened Aug. 26 near Madison Avenue and East Southport Road on the city's south side.

Police were called after a man claimed a fake officer pulled him over.

The man told police he had yelled at the driver, later identified as Danny Thomas, of a car for impersonating an officer. He said Thomas began following him and then activated a siren and flashing lights.

The man told police he pulled over and walked toward the fake police car. He said Thomas showed what appeared to be a badge and told him that he was "a danger to society."

Police were able to locate Thomas' car and noted the front plate said "police" with an Indiana State Police badge on it. The back plate was an Army Veteran plate and said "BLUEPD." Police said the car also had two lightbars in the window with flashing lights. The horn also made a sound more similar to an IMPD vehicle than a regular vehicle.

Thomas allegedly told police he was simply trying to slow the other driver down. Police claim Thomas told them he honked at the other driver, but he denied using flashing lights or showing a badge.

Thomas is facing charges of impersonating an officer and unlawful display of emergency lights.
