INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD announced the arrest of a 32-year-old man Friday in connection with a 2020 homicide on the city's near east side.
The department previously stated that around 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 9, 2020, officers were called to the 2500 block of English Avenue, near Southeastern Avenue and South Rural Street, where they found an unresponsive woman.
The woman, later identified as 31-year-old Brittany Burns, was taken in critical condition to a local hospital, where she died Oct. 19.
The Marion County Coroner's Office later ruled Burns' death as a homicide and said she died of trauma including asphyxia and blunt force injuries.
On May 22, 2024, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office charged the 32-year-old man identified by police as a suspect with murder. He was taken into custody May 22 in Shelby County, IMPD said.
