IMPD: 3 injured in separate overnight shootings within an hour

The shootings were reported within a 45-minute period early Friday in downtown Indianapolis and the city's east side.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after three people were injured in separate shootings within an hour early Friday morning in Indianapolis.

Downtown Indy canal shooting

The first shooting was reported around 3 a.m. in the 300 block of West Michigan Street, near North Senate Avenue in downtown Indianapolis. 

Officers responding for a report of a "large disturbance" were informed of a person shot and located a man with a gunshot wound/s at the scene, IMPD Capt. Don Weilhammer told 13News.

The victim was described by police as "stable" when transported to Eskenazi Hospital.

Weilhammer said it's believed the shooting happened on the canal and that detectives did not have any suspect information as of early Friday.

Near east Indy shooting

Around 3:15 a.m., officers were called to another shooting in the 500 block of North Oakland Avenue, near North Rural and East Michigan streets on Indianapolis' near east side.

There they located a victim who had been shot. They were described by an IMPD spokesperson as "awake and breathing" when transported to a local hospital.

Police have not shared any additional information on the circumstances of the shooting.

East Indy shooting

Less than a half hour later, around 3:45 a.m., IMPD officers responded to the third shooting in the 6000 block of Windsor Drive, near North Arlington Avenue and East 21st Street on Indianapolis' east side.

There they located a victim with a gunshot wound/s who was also described by a police spokesperson as "awake and breathing" when taken to a local hospital.

No additional information on the shooting has been shared by police.
