INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD arrested two teen armed carjacking and robbery suspects after a police chase ended in a crash Sunday night in Indianapolis.

The incident was reported around 10:30 p.m. Oct. 20 in the 1500 block of North Alabama Street, just south of East 16th Street on Indy's near north side.

Officers responding for a report of an armed robbery and carjacking learned four armed and masked suspects held the victim at gunpoint and took their belongings, including a cellphone and wallet, before fleeing in the victim's car, the department said in a social media message.

Police used automated license plate readers to locate the victim's car on the east side of Indianapolis. That car fled from officers during an attempted traffic stop, leading to a chase.

"At some point, the suspect driver lost control [of] the vehicle and [the] car crashed," IMPD said in the post. Two suspects, an 18-year-old man and 19-year-old man, were taken into custody. Police said one of them was hiding in a tree.

"The two additional suspects were unable to be located, and detectives continue to actively search for both of them," the department said.

Detectives found items stolen from the victim in addition to two handguns and a rifle, police said.

The two suspects arrested face preliminary charges of armed robbery and resisting law enforcement.

Anyone with information on the two other suspects is asked to contact Det. Keith Ortega at Keith.Orega@indy.gov or the IMPD Robbery Office at 317-327-3733. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
