Man charged after southwest Indy shooting

INDIANAPOLIS — A 28-year-old man has been charged after a shooting on Indianapolis' southwest side Thursday morning.

Shortly before 11 a.m. Feb. 8, IMPD officers responded to the 5000 block of Melrose Avenue, near South Minnesota Street and South Lynhurst Drive, for a report of a person shot. 

Officers located a victim who was described by police as "awake and breathing" when taken to a local hospital.

IMPD said one person was detained at the scene Thursday morning. The next day, the department said a 28-year-old man had been arrested.

On Feb. 12, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office charged Donald Meyer with aggravated battery and battery by means of a deadly weapon.

No additional information on the circumstances of the shooting was immediately available.
