IMPD investigating overdose death initially reported as a person shot

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is conducting a death investigation on Indy's southeast side. 

According to IMPD, around 3:40 p.m. on Nov. 24, officers responded to the 5800 block of Outer Bank Road, which is near Edgewood Avenue and South Franklin Road, on a report of a person shot.

When officers arrived, they found one person who was pronounced dead at the scene. IMPD says that person was initially said to be killed by a gunshot, but after the Marion County Coroner's Office and IMPD homicide detectives arrived at the scene, the person's cause of death was changed to an overdose. 

Police say a firearm was found at the scene near the victim.
