INDIANAPOLIS — A man is dead and a woman was injured after a shootout in downtown Indianapolis early Saturday morning.
According to a release from IMPD, just after 3 a.m. Oct. 12, IMPD officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Indiana Avenue, near Indiana University Indy's campus, on a report of a person shot.
When officers arrived, they found two victims, a man and a woman, who had both been shot. The man, later identified as 28-year-old Charles Lovelady Jr., was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead. The woman was reported to be "awake and breathing."
IMPD told 13News the shooting happened between two vehicles. The nearby Taco Bell sustained damage in the shootout. One employee told 13News no one inside was injured. The inside of the restaurant was closed Saturday, but the drive-thru was still open.
