Hancock County man accused of stabbing another man's dog on Pennsy Trail

Police said the suspect approached a man and his dog on the trail earlier this month, making threats before stabbing the dog.

HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. — Ed Yoder said rather than runners on Pennsy Trail in Hancock County, squad cars sat on it earlier this month after he saw someone confronting a man walking his dog.

"When the guy dropped his shirt, kicked off his shoes, and was standing out here in shorts only, that's when I recognized he had a knife in his hand," Yoder said.

Yoder said the knife was about 10 to 12 inches.

And while Yoder said he couldn't make out what the men were saying to one another, court documents give a glimpse into that alleged exchange on Saturday, April 6.

They say the dog owner told investigators he was walking past a man, now identified as Edwin Temblador, when the man said, "I'm going to kill your dog and then you," while he was allegedly sharpening his knife.

And while the man tried to get away, Temblador allegedly ran up behind him and stabbed his dog near her neck, causing her to lose a dangerous amount of blood.

"You know, everybody is friendly out here, and I never even expect that, so you kind of ... now I'm a little more, paying attention to what's going on out here," Yoder said.

Yoder said after he called 911, police were able to take Temblador into custody.

But instead of taking him to the police station, court documents say he was taken to the psychiatric unit at Community North Hospital. According to the Hancock County prosecutor, Temblador was discharged before charges could be filed.

A warrant has been issued for Temblador's arrest for charges of criminal recklessness, torturing or mutilating a vertebrate of an animal, attempting to kill a domestic animal and intimidation.

Monday night, the dog that was stabbed is said to be recovering and doing well.
