IMPD seizes guns, marijuana and narcotics from west Indy apartment

Two 20-year-old men were arrested and charged in connection with the investigation.

INDIANAPOLIS — An investigation by the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force (ICGTF) led to the arrest of two 20-year-old men and the seizure of firearms, meth and marijuana.

According to a social media post from IMPD, on May 6, an ICGTF investigation was taking place in the 7200 block of River Walk Drive, which is at an apartment complex near Crawfordsville Road and Waterfront Parkway on the west side of Indianapolis.

During the investigation, detectives saw 20-year-old DeJuan Taylor and 20-year-old Ghakel Weathers with firearms in both men's waistbands. Both men were prohibited from possessing firearms, according to police.

Weathers was seen going inside the apartment, while Taylor was seen getting into a car and driving away. Police initiated a traffic stop on Taylor and took him into custody after recovering two illegally possessed firearms inside the car.

After getting a search warrant, detectives arrived back at the apartment and told the people inside to exit. Police believe the people inside the house were flushing evidence down the toilet during that time.

Eventually, police say three people, including Weathers, came out of the apartment. That is when police found three firearms, with one being equipped with a machine gun conversion device, roughly 80 grams of methamphetamine, multiple pounds of marijuana and other drug trafficking paraphernalia.

According to online court records, Taylor's bond was set at $150, and his bench trial is scheduled for July 9. Weathers' initial hearing was May 10, and his jury trial is scheduled for July 17.
